Ros has been in Darwin from the 12th to the 16th January doing presentations about East Timor as part of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory’s summer holliday program. There is an exhibtion running at from November to July at MAGNT “HUSI BEI ALA TIMOR SIRA NIA LIMAN ~ FROM THE HANDS OF OUR ANCESTORS” . If you are in Darwin it is a wonderful exhibition and well worth the visit. I have been to East Timor many times and I learnt a lot from this exhibition!

Tony Amaral, the TImorese artist living with our family in Sydney, came up to work with children with art and craft in the discovery centre which is designed for children. Tony has just successfully completed first year Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School in Sydney.

Below are some photos from the presentations, we had children dressing up in the traditional costumes, it was a very hands on show!

Hello Everyone,

I am off to East Timor and Darwin tomorrow, to establish partnerships and hopefully commitment for a secure lockable place for the Music School in Dili we are helping to establish “Hadahur”. This is the first such music school for Dili, combining traditional music as well as western as the disciplines to be taught in the school. I hope to be able to post some photos shortly.

It is vital to the school that good support be developed in Darwin, through Charles Darwin University and Northern Territory Music Schools. We are hoping to secure financial support from companies involved in Timor, to help defray the costs of sending teachers on a regular basis from Darwin to Dili (teaching violin and guitar initially). This is a small start in what hopes to be a successful music school.

More Soon. If you have instruments, funds to donate, please go the the page on the site for Donations.

thanks
